Expanding the Global Air Community

Global Maritime and Air Intelligence

2009

The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) issued Intelligence Community Directive 902 (Global Maritime and Air Intelligence Integration) to provide policy and direction to Intelligence Community elements for integrating activities and information sharing to improve, develop, and enhance Air Community intelligence to effectively identify and respond to national security threats.

2015

To specifically address air intelligence issues, the DNI established the National Aviation Intelligence Integration Office (NAI2O).
"The concept of the NAI2O originated in the findings of The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (also known as The 9/11 Commission), The Intelligence Reform and Terror Prevention Act (IRTPA), Presidential directives, and additional USG and IC aviation security plans."

Appointed as NIM-Aviation

2016

DNI subsequently designated NAI2O as the functional National Intelligence Manager for Aviation in 2016. In this role, NIM-A serves as the DNI’s principal advisor on aviation issues. "NIM-A accomplishes this, in part by orchestrating Inter-Agency (IA) & IC collaboration on the collection & production of all relevant and appropriate information required to fully inform USG leaders, thus enabling clear & concise policy and resource decisions to be made in an efficient manner (NAI2O Wikipedia)."
